The Queen's Platinum Jubilee 2022

On 6 February this year Her Majesty the Queen became the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth.

To mark this historical occasion there will be a four day Bank Holiday weekend, from Thursday 2 June until Sunday 5 June.

You can get involved in celebrating Her Majesty's historic reign, nationally and in Surrey.

The Big Lunch

The Big Lunch has helped to bring communities together since 2009, and will be inviting communities to take part in the Platinum Jubilee celebrations. The Big Lunch can be as big as a street party, or as small as a garden barbecue.

See below how you can organise your own Big Lunch in Surrey and see what other Big Lunches are being organised.

Jubilee Pageant

A Jubilee Pageant will take place with 5000 performers from the United Kingdom and Commonwealth combining a variety of performance arts to commemorate both Her Majesty, and the collective celebratory efforts of people worldwide.

Surrey events

There will be lots of things going on in Surrey and we are trying to round up what events are going on throughout the year. Here is what we know so far. You can also check your local district and borough websites for a round up Jubilee activities in your area.

Street parties and Big Lunches

Street parties are great opportunities to not only bring communities together, but a safe place for everyone to take advantage of a traffic free zone. Why not organise events such as skateboarding, cycling, egg and spoon races, tug of war, even a game of badminton to take advantage of your car free street.

If you're thinking of organising a street party or an event you will need to submit an application. This is not done via Surrey County Council but via your local district and borough council. If you need to apply for a road closure please allow 6-12 weeks before your event. Please see the district and borough links below to submit an application in your area.

Please note we are unable to provide road closure signs for your event, however you can find further advice about organising road closures for a street party via Gov.UK and how to hire or buy signs for it via the Street Party website.

Please see our Surrey Highways Interactive Map for planned roadworks in your area, which might have an impact on temporary road closure requests and events.

Temporary road closure applications - the deadline is fast approaching for Bank Holiday weekend.

Please note: you will need to apply for a temporary road closure 6 to 12 weeks before the event. For Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend closures some district and boroughs have a cut off of end of April. Check district and borough websites below.

Big Lunches

The Big Lunch is an idea from the Eden Project to bring people together to meet, chat and have fun in their neighbourhoods, annually fundraising £8m for local causes they care about. It's about sharing food and fun during the Jubilee bank holiday weekend of 2 to 5 June 2022, or throughout the Month of Community in June as we celebrate good causes across the UK.

Great things happen when we all get together! For tips and ideas on hosting your own Big Lunch event visit the Eden Project's Big Jubilee Lunch website.
