Unpaid carers in Surrey can get a free health check
Do you look after a relative or friend who is ill, frail or disabled? It's important to look after your own health and wellbeing too.
Unpaid carers in Surrey are being invited for a free health check to give them an opportunity to discuss their own health and wellbeing needs.
We know that unpaid carers are more than twice as likely to experience poor health as those without caring responsibilities. The Carers' Health Check service will help prevent the strain of caring affecting carers' physical and mental health.
What is a Carers' Health Check?
A 30 minute Carers' Health Check phone call will give carers the opportunity to talk to the One You Surrey Team who are trained to give health checks and provide expert guidance to help people improve their health and wellbeing.
This includes areas such as diet, weight, physical activity levels, mental wellbeing, drinking habits and smoking in addition to discussing any financial support requirements. At the end of each appointment you will be signposted to the best possible local services in order to help you achieve your personal goals.
How to book a Carers' Health Check
You can book a health check via the One You Surrey website.
Any unpaid carer who is already registered with Action for Carers can ask to be referred for a Carers' Health Check. If you are not already registered with Action for Carers, you can get in touch with the friendly helpline team on 0303 040 1234 or email carersupport@actionforcarers.org.uk and ask for a referral.
For more information, including the option of face-to-face health check appointments, visit the Action for Carers website.
