Surrey History Centre

There are plenty of ways to learn more about history and discover new things through the Surrey History Centre in Woking. Each month there are a range of workshops, information displays and zoom calls that you can take part in to learn more about Surrey's historic past. Find out more on the Heritage Events web page.


Friday 1 December: Military History, Farnham

This group will be covering a variety of aspects – personnel, strategy, logistics, intelligence gathering, training, the evolution of weapons and their impact on battle tactics from ancient times to the present day. From 10am to 12pm, visit the Farnhamu3a Military History webpage.


Every Saturday until 31 January 2024: A Tale of Two Villages, Ripley Museum

A Tale of Two Villages is a new exhibition at Send & Ripley History's Society's museum. It is a broad brush look at the history of the two villages but with a few special items on show. This exhibition is open from 10am to 12pm. The museum is located in Ripley High Street, behind the new Ripley Victory House. To view the exhibition by appointment call Clare on 01483728546. Monday 4 and Monday 18 December: World History, Farnham

This group look at world history from approximately the beginning of the 16th century through to the mid-20th century. A wide range of subjects will be explored including themes, individuals, specific events, local and global history. Members are encouraged to give a talk on a subject of their own choosing. Wednesday 6 December: Farnham Local History

Farnham and the surrounding area is rich in history. Group members are encouraged to contribute their knowledge and investigations. There will also be guest speakers. Find out more about the event on the Farnhamu3a Farnham Local History webpage.


Saturday 9 December: The Glory of Ancient Greece, Bourne Hall Museum

Enter a world of gods, battles, and heroes. Hear the story of Pheidippides and the Battle of Marathon. Be amazed by his feat of heroism and ultimate sacrifice which helped the Greeks to a stunning victory over their traditional enemies, the Persians. Monday 18 December: Medieval History, Farnham

What no potatoes, no moveable type printing, no democracy? But plenty of Castles, Monasteries, Kings, Emperors, Khans, Shahs, and powerful women. Explore the history of the world between the 5th and 15th centuries with this inquisitive new group with talks and presentations given by volunteering members.
