Partners invited to shape creative career pathways for young people in Surrey

Published: 15 June 2026

Partners from across education, the creative industries, cultural organisations and local authorities in Surrey are invited to attend the Creative Pathways Network on 14 July at Royal Holloway, University of London.

This event is part of an Arts Council England funded programme led by Surrey County Council called Escalate Arts. The programme is delivered in partnership with Spelthorne Borough Council, Artswork and Ashford Youth Club.

Now in its third year, the network brings organisations together to strengthen how young people develop creative skills and progress into careers, responding to a shared challenge around pathways and access to opportunities.

Building real opportunities for young people

Escalate Arts is already delivering activity across Surrey, with a focus on libraries as cultural hubs and youth-led creative opportunities.

Recent highlights include:

Young people leading activity and takeovers at Staines Library Hub
  • A Fashion Festival on Wednesday 27 May, showcasing young people’s work
  • Ongoing creative skills courses, workshops and the National Saturday Club
  • A growing Youth Collective, who help design and deliver events and activity

Dylan R Cook, an Escalate Arts participant, said: “I started with an idea for a film festival, and through Escalate Arts I was able to actually make it happen. It’s made me realise that a career in film is something I can actually go for.”

Shaping the next phase

The event will share emerging findings from research led by Professor Roberta Mock at Royal Holloway, University of London, exploring creative skills and career pathways across Surrey.

It will be the final opportunity for partners to help shape recommendations before they are finalised, with a focus on identifying practical, collaborative next steps.

Participants will take part in working sessions designed to move from insight to action, supported by contributions from external partners including Coastal Catalyst.

Councillor Mark Nuti, Surrey County Council Cabinet Member for Health and Communities, said: “Surrey is full of talented young people with incredible creativity and potential. Through the Creative Pathways Network, we’re bringing partners together to strengthen opportunities, connect expertise and support clear, inspiring routes into creative careers. By working collaboratively, we can help young people.” develop their skills, build confidence and take their next steps into the creative industries.”
