Learn an instrument for less

Do you know a child or young person who wanted to learn an instrument but didn’t know where to start? Surrey Arts is turning up the volume on new opportunities by expanding its instrument hire service, making it easier for children and young people across Surrey to start (or continue) their musical journey.

Low cost, high value

For children who aren’t Surrey Arts students, instruments can be hired for just £11.20 to £20.00 per month, depending on the instrument. Even better, all instruments are insured by Surrey County Council against accidental damage (subject to a refundable deposit), as well as theft and loss, so families can focus on the fun and not the worry.

What can they play?

There’s no shortage of choice, whether your child is drawn to orchestral classics or modern sounds:

• Brass: trumpets, trombones, horns, euphoniums and tubas
• Woodwind: flutes, clarinets, oboes and bassoons
• Strings: violins, violas, cellos and double basses
• Something different? Percussion, keyboards and guitars: electric (with amplifier), acoustic and bass

Perfect for experimenting, progressing or finally giving that long‑dreamed‑of instrument a go.

The instrument hire service has long supported students learning through Surrey Arts, but it’s now being promoted more widely. That means children and young people learning music at school, in community groups or on their own can all get involved.

By widening awareness of the hire offer, Surrey Arts hopes to open the door to music‑making for more young people across the county. Playing music can boost confidence, support wellbeing and spark creativity, and this service helps make that possible for more families.
