Travelling around Surrey for less

Schemes and discounts to help you get around the county easier and sustainably

If you’re looking to leave the car at home, or don’t have access to one, there are now many ways to get around Surrey that can also save you money too.

By bus

Most bus journeys across Surrey’s bus network cost a maximum of £3 for a single ticket due to the UK government national fare cap, in place until March 2027. Our bus timetables show you where and when to hop on and off buses across the county.

In areas where traditional bus routes may be limited, our on-demand Surrey Connect service offers bus travel at a time and place that suits you. This popular service is now operating in:

  • Elmbridge
  • Tandridge
  • Farnham
  • Cranleigh
  • West Guildford
  • Longcross
  • Runnymede
  • Haslemere
  • Mole Valley
  • Reigate

For young people aged under 20, our free of charge Surrey LINK card offers half-price bus travel on all single and return journeys. And for older residents, a concessionary free bus pass allows free travel on buses across the county and anywhere in England.

We’ve also introduced the Aira Explorer app. This helps to support blind and partially sighted Surrey residents to travel independently from bus and railway stations.

Walking, scooting, wheeling and cycling

We’ve been developing schemes to make it easier for people to get around their local neighbourhood by walking, wheeling and cycling by installing more walking and cycling routes across the county.

Our Local Street Improvements programme is also aiming to improve local zones to make our communities safer, healthier, and more attractive for people to live, work and visit. Surrey’s first  scheme in Lower Sunbury is set to get underway later this year (subject to Government funding).

We’re also installing ‘School Streets’ to reduce air pollution and improve road safety during the busiest times of the day. The first school street at Farnham Heath End School has already seen a 62 per cent reduction in cars entering and exiting the road.

Bikeability cycle training (available for all ages) and our ‘Feet First’ walking programme are other schemes helping children to walk, cycle and wheel to school safely.

Don't have a bike?

Don’t worry! Borrow Bike lets residents borrow a bike for up to 10 days from Ashford and Chertsey Libraries. To see how easy it is to borrow a bike, watch the following short video which highlights the simple steps.

And in Guildford, e-bikes can be booked to help residents and visitors get around the town and beyond. To book a bike, visit the Beryl Guildford website.
