Countryside walks
Springtime is a wonderful time of year to get out and about as the county becomes awash with colour. From wildflowers, to wild garlic, spring anemones and bluebells which can be found in abundance in our woodlands.
Here are a few places to visit for the best springtime displays:
- Shere Woodlands nestling in the hills above East Clandon and Shere
- White Down, above Abinger
- Tilburstow Hill, Bletchingley
- Staffhurst Woods, south of Oxted
Or amble along the towpath of the Basingstoke Canal taking in the birdlife and tranquil scenic waterway. The visitor centre is worth a stop as they run Easter activities for children and offer boat trips and boat hire.
Watch out for ticks in outdoor environments, especially woodland and grassland. It’s best to stick to paths and avoid brushing against vegetation, and regularly check children and pets for ticks after walks in the countryside, cycling or spending time in nature.
Pedal into spring

Leave the car at home and explore Surrey on two wheels. Don’t have a bike? Don’t worry! Borrow Bike lets residents borrow a bike for up to 10 days from Ashford and Chertsey Libraries. To see how easy it is to borrow a bike, watch the following short video below which highlights the simple steps.
Check out some of our favourite cycle routes across the county which will help you get from A to B.
Farm visits
Spring is lambing season, making Easter one of the best times to visit farms in Surrey. With newborn lambs, chicks, bunnies, and small animal encounters, Bocketts Farm in Fetcham and Godstone Farm are always a favourite with toddlers and younger children. Birdworld just outside Farnham and Westland Farm in Shamley Green also have Easter activities planned across the week.
When getting out and about Easter, take simple steps to reduce the risk of infection, such as washing your hands after any contact with farm animals.
