Surrey’s care workforce celebrated at awards

Surrey Care Awards

Care workers have been honoured for their dedication in helping vulnerable adults live their best lives, at the 2023 Surrey Care Awards.

Overseen every year by the Surrey Care Association (a non-profit support organisation for the industry), the awards highlight the expertise and commitment of those working in the county's care homes, nursing homes alongside others who support living and learning disability services or provide at-home care.

Outstanding winners

Hosted by comedienne, celebrity and TV presenter – and former care worker - Judi Love, 2023's awards saw over 100 nominations across 17 categories.

Some of the winners were:

Louise Young, from Guardian Angel Carers, who won Care Worker of the Year: Home Based, said "To be recognised is a great privilege. To me, it's not just a job, it's my passion to make a difference and care for people. The best feeling in the world is knowing, everyday I've helped put a smile on someone's face."

Lucinda and Matthew Kulupka, co-founders of Home Counties Carers who picked up Home Care Provider of the Year said: "Finding and embracing the joy in our work is so important to us, and we place great value on each team member." "This award serves as a perfect affirmation of our team's commitment."

The evening was rounded off by a surprise Special Recognition Award won by the Care Team at County Care Independent Living, for their work with a couple who met through a learning disability service. The team (Colin Green, Jo Clapham, Kelvin Lindsay, Tracy Cunnington and Mathew Somerscale) later organised and helped the couple marry. Colin reflected that "It was a pleasure and a privilege to be a part of such an uplifting day."
