June is Communities Month

Five great things in your community right now

June is officially Communities Month! A time to celebrate all that make our communities great. Here are five great things happening in the heart of your community right now.

1. At Surrey County Council we continue to work alongside our communities to ensure that they are great places to live, work and visit. Our 11 Community Link Officers are out making connections to make things happen and enable healthy, safe, thriving communities. Find out what they are doing in your local community.

2. Your 52 libraries are where it happens! From rhymetime, crafts, coding and chess clubs, helping people to improve their computer skills, supporting new businesses, author talks, hosting reading groups and exhibitions... your local library has it all in the heart of our communities.

3. Being connected to your community can make a great difference to your mental health and wellbeing. The Connect to Support website can help you make connections in your local area, by assisting you in the search for activities, groups, or organisations.

4. Volunteering offers you the chance to give back to your local community. It can also provide personal satisfaction, an opportunity to meet others, or even experience to add to your CV. Surrey has a thriving Voluntary Community and Social Enterprise sector. You can find volunteering opportunities by visiting Search for volunteering opportunities online.

5. Funding for communities is our way of empowering communities to finance the things that matter to them most, whether that's improved sports facilities, a community hall, or bunting for the village fete. The Your Fund Surrey and Your Councillor Community Fund have funds available for your community project or idea – big or small.
