We’re excited to launch Cabinet Thursdays a brand new series celebrating the incredible work taking place across the Surrey Youth Cabinet (SYC).
What's new
Over the past year, the SYC has evolved to strengthen collaboration, sharpen focus, and increase the impact young people have across Surrey. This refreshed structure brings together two powerful groups working side by side:
- A focused Cabinet team made up of our Members of Youth Parliament (MYPs), portfolio holders, and the Young Mayor team, this smaller group leads on key priorities, drives forward major projects, and represents young people at strategic levels.
- A wider Youth Council which continues as a larger collective of passionate young people from across Surrey. Their role is vital ensuring a broad range of voices, experiences, and ideas shape the work we do.
Together, these groups form a dynamic partnership: a focused leadership team supported by a strong, diverse youth community.
What is Cabinet Thursdays?
Every other Thursday, we’ll be opening the doors to the work happening across both the Cabinet and the Youth Council.
From campaigns and consultations to behind the scenes conversations and real progress updates, Cabinet Thursdays will highlight how young people are influencing decisions and making a difference in their communities. Expect stories about:
- projects led by MYPs and portfolio holders
- Youth Council discussions and ideas
- key issues young people are tackling
- wins, challenges, and the journey in between
- how you can get involved or follow the work
Why it matters
Young people across Surrey are stepping up, speaking out, and shaping change. Cabinet Thursdays is our way of celebrating that and making sure their work is visible, valued, and heard.
Whether you’re a young person, a parent, a partner organisation, or simply curious about youth voice in Surrey, this series will give you a closer look at the energy, leadership, and passion driving the Surrey Youth Cabinet forward.
