Fees timescales and payment for business advice

How to pay

After the Trading Standards Officer has completed the work on your business advice request, your business will be sent an invoice for any outstanding amount and you will have 28 days to pay. Invoicing is on a monthly basis.

Pay for business advice online

Payment can be made to "Surrey County Council" (HSBC, sort code 40-05-30, account no; 10786292) by cheque, BACS, debit or credit card or online.

Your named officer will be able to offer further advice in respect of this. We regret that SCC is unable to accept cash for the services provided under the scheme.

Please use reference "BA/ (your business name)" on any correspondence.

Fees and options

Once your business has registered with Trading Standards you will be able to obtain business advice.

30 minutes of free business advice is available for all Surrey and Buckinghamshire based business who register for this service. This is valid for six months from registration, thereafter it will be charged but at a very competitive rate.

However, if it's just a question of redirecting you to other sources of information, we can usually provide this service free of charge.

Please note our business advice service remains free of charge for 'Eat Out Eat Well members' and information relating to Animal Health.

We also provide free information including leaflets on consumer laws and business web links in our Business information section.

Our services are available through three modular options, enabling you to choose the right level of support. The fees and timescales for these options are listed below and are reviewed annually.

Module 1 - Business advice and Module 2 - Home Authority

Please note: All prices are reviewed annually. Unused hours will not roll over or be refundable. *The minimum charge for chargeable advice is a half hour, regardless of whether the full half hour is used, we then charge in quarter hour units. Module 3 - Primary Authority

There are three options available depending on your business needs:

Option A

An agreement established using standard contract terms and a fixed set-up fee and an annual renewal fee.

The amount of hours required and specific business needs are required to be defined at the start of the contract.

This agreement can incorporate any combination of the following:

Option B

An agreement established using standard contract terms and a fixed minimum amount of hourly advice, set-up fee and an annual renewal fee.

By pre-paying for 17 hours of advice you will benefit from two extra hours of free advice compared to the purchase of the same number of hours under Option A.

This agreement can incorporate any combination of the following:

Option C

  • An agreement established using standard contract terms, which is fully tailored to your business needs, all set-up fees are incorporated into the cost of operating this contract.
  • The contract will be established through face to face meetings to determine the individual requirements of the business, inspection plans, turnaround times, third party services such as analysis, visits to remote premises, updating and adding items to Regulatory Delivery website.
  • The opportunity to access regulatory advice for your business from Trading Standards, Environmental Health, and Surrey Fire and Rescue through a single point of contact.
  • The standard turnaround time for enquiries (if this is not possible due to complexity or external consultation required we will inform you) is five working days.
  • Due to the individual nature of these contracts a quotation is provided as part of the discussions. The minimum fee for this level of contract is £5000, which may include up to 60 hours of advice depending on the type of agreement.

Please note all prices are reviewed annually. Prices are valid for 30 days from date of quotation. These terms and conditions are subject to review from time to time.
