Book a registrar for your marriage or civil partnership ceremony

Coronavirus: Important information

Please read the following information before progressing:

Death registrations: All death registrations are now over the telephone. You will not be required to attend the register office in person. See our death registration guidance page.

Marriage and Civil Partnerships: Marriages and civil partnerships will be able to take place from 4 July 2020. We currently have a high volume of ceremony booking changes to deal with and so we will not be taking any new bookings until Monday 13 July 2020. Please see our marriage and civil partnerships guidance page for further details.

We will be opening our booking system to make notice appointments from Monday 6 July 2020. We are only able to offer notice appointments for couples who have a marriage or civil partnership booked to take place in the next 3 months. Notice appointments will be available at the Guildford, Leatherhead and Weybridge Register Offices.

Birth registrations: The work to make the register offices Covid secure will be completed this week and we will open our booking system to make appointments from Monday 6 July 2020. Birth registration appointments will be available at the Guildford, Leatherhead and Weybridge Register Offices. You can make a claim for child benefit or universal credit prior to the birth being registered. The 42 day requirement to register a birth has been relaxed and no action will be taken if you have not registered within that time frame.

Certificates: We are currently running a limited service and are only able to process copy certificate applications that are essential, such as for legal proceedings, job recruitment etc. We can issue a maximum of five certificates per person. Please do not apply for certificates for the purposes of family history research at this time. If you require certificates for other purposes, please contact the General Register Office who should be able to supply certificates for you.

Citizenship ceremonies: The work to make the register offices Covid secure will be completed this week and we will contact new citizens from the week commencing 6 July 2020 to arrange citizenship ceremonies.

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding.
