Parenting Courses

Find out more about parenting courses in Surrey co-ordinated by Surrey Parenting Education and Support during the summer of 2012. Note that there are separate downloads for courses running in east and west Surrey.

These courses can be described as a very wide range of approaches to supporting mums, dads and those caring for children and young people. Some provide support in the family home for one-to-one support. Some are group-based in early years settings, health clinics or centres, schools as well as local communities including the faith and voluntary sector.

The programmes are run usually by two trained facilitators and often have 10-12 mums, dads and carers attending. The programmes are very supportive and often new friends are made during the programme. Most programmes have a common purpose in supporting mums, dads and carers to:

  • develop greater self-awareness in their role as a parent,
  • develop positive discipline strategies,
  • enhance parent-child communication making family life enjoyable and fun, and
  • gain information on child and adolescent development.
