As part of the process of making Surrey County Council more accessible and accountable at local level, County Councillors in Spelthorne have been meeting as a Local Committee since April 2002.

Local Committee members hear reports on a wide range of Surrey County Council services, allocate funds to promote "well-being" in the Borough and act as advocates on behalf of Spelthorne in the development of County plans and policies. There are many issues on which the Committee likes to involve residents. Views and input from the community of Spelthorne are welcome. There is an invitation to all borough residents to come along to the Local Committee meetings and meet the seven Spelthorne County Councillors who represent their views as Surrey residents.

Duties include making decisions about local transport and highways.
