We need people who care about children to become foster carers and help us change a child's or young person's life for the better by offering the support, care and encouragement they need in their young lives.
You may be under the impression that because Surrey is considered to be an affluent county, that there is a waiting list to foster children or that there are few children in need of foster families. That is not the case, in fact the reverse is true. There are more than 800 children in care in Surrey, and about 80% are in Council foster care. In December 2011 104 children were placed out of the county because there are insufficient numbers of foster carers in Surrey to care for them. We know that children and young people's outcomes are better if they are placed in foster care close to their home, school and friends.
If you care about children and young people, have a spare room and are wondering if you could foster, please have a look at what it takes to become a foster carer and come to one of our open evenings. If you attend an open evening, there is no obligation for you to apply to become a foster carer, it is just the opportunity for you to find out whether fostering is for you.
Take a look at our fostering videosin which foster carers tell their stories and our staff explain more about the excellent support we provide to foster carers. You have our help every step of the way if you choose to foster a child, so you can always rely on us. Please help us make a difference in a Surrey child's life by offering them the loving home that they need.
