The Surrey Safeguarding Adults Board is committed to developing a workforce in Surrey (paid and voluntary) that has the right knowledge and skills to recognise, prevent and effectively respond to abuse and neglect. As part of its Surrey-wide Training Strategy the Board has produced two DVDs.

"Because you said something"

This six minute film aims to raise awareness of Safeguarding Adults in Surrey and to remind people of their role in ensuring the safety of adults at risk (vulnerable adults). The DVD presents five case studies and encourages everyone to report any concerns they have. The content is suitable for anyone and is aimed at basic awareness and induction training either as part of a led training session or within one to one management sessions. It is also suitable for people who use our services, their carers and other members of the general public as part of prevention campaigns.

"Break the silence"

This new DVD is now available. Devised, written and filmed by the people of Lockwood Day Centre, it shows a series of case studies of particular relevance to people with learning disabilities, their carers and those who work with them. These case studies can promote the discussion of keeping safe especially in the context of moving towards independent living. The DVD is accompanied by an easy read guide to keeping safe and can be used as part of a led training session or within small group or one to one support work.

These DVDS can contribute to, and promote discussion of competencies 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 11 and 13 within the National Competence Framework for Safeguarding Adults. They can contribute towards effective induction for new staff as identified in Common Induction Standard 5.4.1 of Skills for Care and also link to Core Dimensions 1, 2, 5 and 6 of the NHS Knowledge and Skills Framework.

How to order copies of DVDs

Copies of these DVDs are available free to those who live and/or work in Surrey. They are also available at cost price (£10 per copy) to those from outside Surrey. In addtion there is now the opportunity to purchase copies of the DVD "Because you said something" with updated contact details appearing on the last screen.
