What is a mental illness or disorder

Mental illness is a broad term that describes a range of disorders, including those that can affect one's ability to work, attend school, and have meaningful and satisfying social and interpersonal relationships.

Mental health issues can happen to anyone at any period of their lives. Some people have temporary issues associated with a personal crisis such as unemployment, bereavement or divorce, while others experience the long term effects of a mental illness.
