Preserving Surrey's architectural heritage

What is the Surrey Historic Buildings Trust?

The Trust was formed in 1980 when a former High Sheriff of Surrey, Philip Henman, promised £25,000 provided that the County Council matched that figure. It did, and the Trust was launched.

It is a company limited by guarantee and a registered charitable trust, independent of the County Council, although it enjoys it's support. The Trust is managed by a Board including members from Surrey County Council, the Surrey Local Government Association and the Surrey Branch of the Council for the Protection of Rural England many with wide ranging experience of restoring and conserving historic buildings. The Trust is also advised by a Conservation Officer.

Many of the functions of the Trust are exercised through its Working Group made up of members who are architects, planners, conservationists and archaeologists. It aims to help preserve the historic architectural heritage in Surrey for the benefit of future generations, by purchasing, selling and restoring buildings, as well as by making grants and providing advice to owners.
