The Red Queen and Woking Palace

An evening with Philippa Gregory international best selling author of “The Other Boleyn Girl”.
Thursday 19 August 2010, 7.30-9.30 at Christ Church Woking
This evening will see Philippa Gregory discussing her latest novel, The Red Queen, on the day it is published. Rob Poulton of Surrey County Archaeology Unit will report on the latest progress at this year’s dig at Woking Palace.

In 1466 Woking Palace fell into the ownership of the ambitious Margaret Beaufort, The Red Queen. Determined to see her son made King, against all odds she succeeded and lived long enough to see her grandson crowned King Henry VIII.

Philippa Gregory was already an established historian and writer when she wrote the internationally best selling novel The Other Boleyn Girl, which was made into a television drama and an award winning film. Now she is looking at the family that preceded the Tudors: the magnificent Plantagenets, a family of complex rivalries, loves, and hatreds.
There will also be a display of costumes inspired by the time of Lady Margaret Beaufort from the Surrey Arts Wardrobe.
