To redress this loss, the Heathland Project was set up in 1989 to protect and enhance lowland heathland in Surrey. The project works with many partners and landowners to achieve significant positive changes on heaths across the county. Work includes organising practical land management, providing specialist advice, working with local communities and re-introducing grazing to some heathland sites.
