2001 census

The 2001 Census was carried out by the Office for National Statistics in April 2001. The results of the census provide a huge amount of statistical information about the people of Surrey.

Results and analysis for Surrey and small areas within it are shown on these pages.

The Office for National Statistics has published "Key Statistics for Local Authorities" from the 2001 Census. This includes data on the main census topics, listed below. For full details for all Local Authorities in England and Wales see the National Statistics website.

Summaries of this data for Surrey and the 11 districts are provided here. Note that there have been some changes in definition since the 1991 Census as well as a number of changes to the Surrey boundary. 2001 Census data has also been adjusted for under-enumeration whereas the 1991 data was not. This needs to be born in mind where comparisons with the 1991 Census are made on these pages.

Information from earlier censuses can be found on the Surrey data online - population pages.
