Why are grass cuttings not collected and removed from the cut area?
Cuttings are relatively short and mulch down to suppress regrowth. The type of equipment required for the collection and removal of grass cuttings would also increase the cost of the operation six fold. We do, however, endeavour to ensure that grass cuttings are not left on adjacent roads, pavements, driveways etc.
Can I maintain a grass verge near my property?
We are aware that some people like to mow the grass outside their properties to a higher standard than the council. You should be aware of the possible risk of injury to both yourself and passing traffic and pedestrians.
Is grass cutting undertaken in all rural areas?
Not in all rural areas, as it is simply not practical. Apart from sight line areas, we only cut a one metre wide strip next to roads. Also, embankments and steep slopes will not be cut unless they are directly next to the road. Where footways are present the adjacent verge will usually be cut either side.
Why are some grass verges in urban areas cut more frequently than others?
In some circumstances, borough and parish councils may elect to fund some additional cuts.
