Damage or vandalism to council property

Each year there are a significant number of incidents that occur on the highway network that result in damage to Surrey County Council's property (some common examples include - road signs, bollards and pedestrian guard rail). The type of incident and resulting loss varies greatly. There are sometimes difficulties identifying the person or persons responsible for the damage.

Reporting damage or vandalism

If you have witnessed some damage to the public highway, signs or other features, we would like to hear from you so that we can make the highway safe and so that we can reclaim our costs against those who caused the damage. Any costs that cannot be reclaimed reduce the budget we have available for maintaining and improving the road infrastructure.

The more information you can give us the better. Please provide the following where possible:

  • Street name and area.
  • Location on street (Is it near a house number or road junction?).
  • Description and detail of the damage, such as pedestrian railings or bollard.
  • Your name and a contact number.
  • Date and approximate time of damage.
  • Persons or vehicle registration responsible for damage (if known).
  • Were the police in attendance or informed?
Follow this link to Report it online.
