Cycle Woking

The Woking cycle town programme came to an end in April 2011.

Its main successes were

  • improvements to the Woking Cycle Network in order to make it even more cycle friendly and at the same time rebranding it as the Woking Planet Trails
  • a major upgrade of the Basingstoke Canal towpath to provide a high quality east-west walking and cycling route via the town centre with links to local schools and local neighbourhoods
  • working with local businesses and community groups in order to introduce schemes that help more people take up cycling for commuting and health
  • an expansion of activities with local schools, including cycle clubs and cycle storage, travel plans and the introduction of Bikeability cycle training
  • improved cycle storage at railway stations and the town centre
  • the creation of a Woking Go-Ride club (now based at Sheerwater)
