Student fare card scheme

The student fare card scheme has been reviewed and we are pleased to confirm that the scheme travel discounts will continue for the academic year 2013/14.

Please be aware that student fare cards for the 2014/15 academic year are not yet available. If you apply for a student fare card now the card will be valid until August 2014.

The student fare card scheme is for students aged between 16-18 (students must be aged 16 but under 19 on the 1 September of the year of application).

  • The cost of the student fare card is £25 and is valid from the date of issue until the end of the following August.
  • You may only apply for both a bus and a train student fare card if you need to use both modes of transport daily to complete your journey.
  • Students must fulfil the following criteria:
    • Are in full time further education
    • Resident in one of the following borough/districts.

New online application process

All students must now apply online for their bus and train student fare cards. Students will be required to register before being able to purchase a card for the first time. To register students will need an email address, password and be able to provide their date of birth and address.

To apply online students will need the following:

  • email address
  • personal information
  • school/college details
  • journey information (for buses please check journey information via traveline individual route numbers and bus company details)
  • photo ready to upload
  • credit/debit card for online payment
