Boys Dance

Surrey Boys Youth Dance Company (10 –16 years)

Surrey Arts has launched the Surrey Boys Youth Dance Company. The company meet monthly with choreographer Robert Hylton for fitness and skills training and take part in residencies to create dance work for performance.

So far this year the group has performed at the Rhoda McGaw Theatre in Woking and at Surrey Sports Park as part of Surrey’s 2012 Olympic programme, celebrating 500 days to go to the Olympics. The company will also perform at the Surrey Youth Games finals.

Join the company

The company is open to boys aged 10 to 16 who have some dance experience and who are interested in training in hip hop and creative dance styles.

If you are interested in joining the company you can apply at any time. There is no audition but you will need to be able to demonstrate that you have the time, commitment and dedication to contribute to the company. You will need to commit to a half day of training once a month, in addition to any other dance activities you already do, and be available during some holidays and weekends to create work, for performances and to do extra rehearsals. Please contact the dance officer for details of how to apply.

If you run a boys dance group in Surrey we’d love to hear from you.

Surrey Arts hosts a yearly boys dance performance platform, Fast Forward, which takes place in the summer. Please contact the dance officer for more details or if you would like to take part.

Other ways to get dancing

If you are interested in dancing and are looking for a dance class, please contact us and we will put you in touch if there is a class near you.Surrey Arts and our partners also run regular activities and residencies with guest artists and choreographers for young men of all ages.
