Forgotten Festivals

Forgotten Festival Banner Small

Every country, every culture has its particular traditions, customs and rituals.  Discovering your local traditions can provide a fascinating insight into how people in your town or village used to live.  Much of Surrey was farmland, hence the celebrations often linked to harvest, weather, and the farmers' holiday leading up to twelfth night in January.  People celebrated much the same as today with performing, singing, eating and drinking.

The 2012 Forgotten Festivals calendar brings together a varied mix of existing traditions and new celebrations of our local history in a year when the country embraces the Queen's Jubilee, Olympic and Paralympic Games through outdoor celebrations.
