Fire safety education in schools

Educating the young about fire safety and fire prevention forms a vital component of the work of Surrey Fire and Rescue Service's Education Team.

Surrey Fire & Rescue Service has a structured fire safety educational programme which aims to be progressive and comprehensive in its coverage of the 3 to 14 age range. Education Officers and local firefighters deliver this programme and convey fire safety messages to over forty thousand Surrey school children each year.

The aims and objectives of the programme, information for each key stage and details on how to book a fire safety talk can be found below.

Notice

Following the Prevention Review, 2011, there will be a reduction in the number of dedicated education posts. Until further notice the universal provision of classroom visits to Year groups 2, 5 and 8 will be suspended. The Schools Fire Safety Education Programme will now be delivered on a prioritised basis informed by local risk. Targetted provision will still be available for schools that have experienced fire setting incidents and to those schools specifically working with children with special educational or behavioural needs. Surrey Fire & Rescue Service will continue to work in partnership, with other agencies, to support the delivery ofJunior Citizens.
