Arson Task Force

The Arson Task Force was set up by the Surrey Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) in a bid to reduce the number of arson attacks across Surrey using Government funding. The task force has also established a 'Countryside Arson' partnership with Surrey Crimestoppers, Surrey Police and other partners including the Forestry Commission, in a bid to prevent countryside arson attacks.

Aims

The aim of the Arson Task Force is to instigate and maintain close working relationships with the Police, Local Authorities, Crime and Disorder panels and other relevant agencies in the field of arson reduction, to improve Community Safety throughout the County.

Objectives

To achieve the aims, the Task Force will review and amend current fire investigation practices and by working with Arson Reduction Teams throughout the South East Region, construct standard practices.

Part of the role of the task force is the management and maintenance of an Incident Database which has up-to-date statistics from within the County, plus Regional and National Data, to allow interrogation of the information to produce forecasts and projections of likely vulnerable areas within the County. Statistics from the database from within the County will be fed back into the regional and national databases to assist in large-scale projections.

The Task Force will manage and co-ordinate the SFRS Fire Investigation resources to ensure sufficient and effective availability throughout the county at all times and that workloads of individual qualified officers is monitored.
