Community Safety Unit

Surrey Community Safety Unit forms part of the Safer and Stronger Communities Team within the Customers and Communities Directorate. The unit consists of four staff:

  • Gordon Falconer, Community Safety Manager
  • Barbara French, Domestic Abuse Strategy Manager
  • Louise Gibbins, Community Safety Officer
  • Richard Carpenter, Community Safety Officer
The unit works with all agencies engaged in community safety, crime and disorder reduction and domestic abuse in Surrey. Principally these are Surrey County Council, Surrey Police, Surrey Police Authority, the eleven Borough and District Councils, Surrey Probation Service, Primary Health Care Trusts, Surrey Fire and Rescue Service, the Drug and Alcohol Action Team, the Youth Justice Service, independent domestic abuse service providers and other voluntary sector agencies.

The main purpose of the Unit is to improve cooperative work between the agencies and to provide leadership and guidance on new policies and projects that require a countywide response.

The team has built up an impressive activity portfolio based on running training and networking events, conducting evaluations of projects relating to community safety issues and carrying out policy analysis to ensure best practice in crime reduction is understood, implemented and embedded into service delivery.
