Learning to drive

Our aim is to help to make Surrey's roads safer for all road users. Outlined are the services we provide along with some information and advice on road safety for different sections of our community.

We give information about road safety schemes in your area and about the Drive Smart campaign that is run in partnership with Surrey Police, tackling driving behaviour that negatively affects the lives of county road users and residents.

Directgov provide a link to information about driving tests, vehicles and road safety, to help you learn to drive and pass your own driving test.

For more information about driving tests, go to Learners and new drivers and riders information on Directgov.

Read about The Highway Code on the Directgov website.

Have a look at Surrey Fire and Rescue Service's 'Safe Drive, Stay Alive' section for information about their initiative, which aims to educate Surrey's young drivers about their actions and possible consequences.

Pass Plus on the Directgov website, is a scheme jointly back by the DSA and by insurers. It offers extra training to newly qualified drivers, which then allows them to get cheaper car insurance.

The National Driver Improvement Campaign is a scheme jointly backed by local authorities and the police to provide driving courses to help drivers who are seen to be 'Driving without due care and attention or reasonable consideration to other road users'.

If you have a disability, the Motability scheme might be able to help you get a vehicle.
