Surrey holds ceremony to mark the start of Armed Forces Week

Flag raising for armed forces week

The Chairman of Surrey County Council Lavinia Sealy hosted a flag raising ceremony at County Hall in Kingston to mark the start of Armed Forces Week.

The event saw council staff, veterans, cadets and a pipe band from Woking's Gordon’s School joining together to show their support for the work of the military.

Mrs Sealy said: "The men and women of our armed forces, past and present, have consistently risen to any challenge in magnificent fashion, no matter the difficulties they face. Regulars, reservists and indeed their families who bear so much on our behalf have more than earned the nation's gratitude."

The county council's work with the military has been led by Mrs Sealy and includes the creation of a partnership board which offers support to organisations bidding for Ministry of Defence funding.
