Surrey County Council Chairman Geoff Marlow was among the guests welcoming HRH the Countess of Wessex to a new housing project.
The Countess officially opened Surrey Community Development Trust's new property in Staines, which will provide supported accommodation for eight vulnerable people. The trust helps people supported by the county council to live independently in the community.
Mr Marlow said: "The royal seal of approval is a fitting way to mark the opening of this fantastic new housing. People who want to live independently but need that extra bit of support have now got high-quality housing that will be a huge benefit for many years to come."
Surrey Community Development Trust, a registered charity and housing association, provides supported accommodation for vulnerable people across Surrey, including those under the county council's care. People who are helped include those with mental health issues and learning difficulties.
The county council, NHS Surrey and Social Information on Disability have set up a new website called Surrey Information Point to help people stay independent. The site includes advice on supported accommodation as well as information on health, money and leisure activities.
The website is part of the county council's new Live life Your Way campaign, which aims to raise awareness about support and advice available.
