Bus review consultation ends this month

Bus in a town centre

Residents have until the end of the month to help shape the way bus services are run in Surrey.

The consultation is part of the county's bus review which aims to ensure services are run where they are needed most while saving millions of pounds on spiralling subsidy costs.

Ian Lake, Surrey County Council's Cabinet Member for Transport, said: "Surrey's bus services became a hotch potch of different routes over the years so the review is an opportunity to go back to the drawing board and make sure the needs of passengers are met while providing value for money. We had to take action because the subsidy costs were soaring by millions of pounds and weren't providing taxpayers with value for money."

Phase one of the review led to some services being increased where demand was stronger and reduced or withdrawn where demand had fallen, while saving taxpayers £1.7 million a year.

Phase two, covering Surrey Heath, Tandridge and west Woking, is currently taking place with the public consultation scheduled to finish on 31 January.
