The new School Admissions Code introduces a statutory requirement from 2010-11:
From the 2010-2011 academic year, local authorities must formulate schemes for coordinating applications made during the academic year and applications for admission to age groups other than the normal year of entry ("in year applications").
Surrey consulted on this scheme and it was agreed by Cabinet on 1 December 2009. This scheme must comply with current legislation and regulations and includes a common application form, a common process and requires that only the Local Authority offers places on behalf of all schools.
