Every child a talker

Every Child a Talker logo

In the first five years of a child's life, they learn more about speaking and words than at any other time. The Every Child a Talker (ECAT) campaign aimed to spread the word about everyday activities, which can help a young child's language develop.

Parents - if you have a child under the age of five you may find our language leaflets and our talking time activity cards useful. If you have a toddler, we have monthly activity sheets too. You can find all these on the how parents can help with communication page.

Early years practitioners - if you work with the under fives, we have information, activity ideas, posters and case studies available for you on our communication and language in early years page. You can download the ECAT guidance document for early language lead practitioners from the Department for Education website.

The Department for Education started the ECAT campaign in 2008 and Early Years and Childcare Service ran the campaign in Surrey.
