Surrey Fire and Rescue Service placements

Our placements aim to help you:

  • understand how businesses function
  • gain self confidence
  • develop skills and knowledge needed for adult life
  • appreciate the expectations held of employees
  • develop your career planning
  • make links between your studies and the world of work

They are positive, challenging, beneficial and enjoyable while, at the same time, encourage you to use and develop some or all of the following key skills:

  • Communication - taking part in discussions, preparing written material and reading
  • Information Technology - using computers to enter, edit, organise and present information, evaluating software and dealing with errors and faults
  • Application of Number - gathering and processing numerical data, tackling problems and explaining mathematical data
  • Improving Learning and Performance - setting targets and following activities which help you to learn
  • Working with Others - working with other people, in pairs, groups or teams, to achieve goals
  • Problem Solving - selecting solutions to given problems

Placements are for one week only to dates that are convenient to the placement department. The scheme is open to Year 10 students (aged 15/16 - although there may be some exceptions) and are unpaid.

Students will be asked to complete a Placement application form and if shortlisted will be invited to attend an informal interview prior to a placement confirmation.
