Work experience with Surrey Fire and Rescue

What is work experience?

Work experience provides an opportunity for young people in full time education to gain an insight into the world of work, its disciplines and challenges.

Work experience may be defined as "a placement on an employer's premises in which a student carries out a range of tasks or duties, more or less as would an employee, but with an emphasis on the learning aspects of the experience".

It can also enhance your employability by:

  • Giving you experience of how to apply for a post
  • Increasing your confidence, self-esteem and motivation to succeed
  • Helping you to develop positive attitudes to work and lifelong learning
  • Providing you with opportunities to practice key skills for adult working life
  • Supporting any projects, assignments and other work you are undertaking as part of a subject or course
