Waste Transfer Station means that this site has a weighbridge that is used to weigh vehicles bringing commercial or trade waste to the site so that a charge can be made for its disposal.
All of the Community Recycling Centres operate normal opening times on bank holidays, except for closures on:
SITA Surrey is working on behalf of Surrey County Council to relocate the Slyfield community recycling centre and waste transfer station on Moorfield Road, Guildford.
The development will form part of the Slyfield Area Regeneration Project (SARP), which aims to regenerate the Slyfield area. The wider SARP project is currently on hold pending the results of further investigations on the relocation of the existing sewage treatment works, which will enable further options for the SARP site plan to be developed. Once this is complete public consultation will take place on all options.
The new facility will be a larger, more modern community recycling centre, with more containers and parking bays than can be accommodated at the current site.
The waste transfer station will be completely separate so that residents no longer have to queue alongside heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) to access the site. If planning permission is granted the current facility will not have to close during construction, as the new site is separate to the existing one.
The new larger facility will have a number of benefits over the current one, including:
We are currently working on a planning application which should be submitted to the County Planning Authority in summer 2013. The application will cover all aspects of the development including the construction and operational phases. Once the application has been submitted, it will go out to public consultation and will be available to view by appointment at SITA Surrey’s head office at SITA Surrey, Amenity Way, Morden, SM4 4AX. It will also be available on Guildford Borough Council’s website and council offices.
