As food prices continue to rise around the world, it’s a sobering thought to know that UK families waste up to £50 a month throwing away uneaten food.
We also know that cutting down on food waste can be a challenge, especially when you’re pushed for time or your kids don’t always want to eat what you’ve cooked for them.
So to help you waste less, Surrey County Council’s Love Food Surrey campaign provides helpful tips on how to save more and waste less, but for the food waste you can’t avoid, you can use your kerbside food waste collection service where provided. By collecting the food separately from general waste it can be processed in a more environmentally friendly way and turned into fertiliser for use on farms.
The Love Food Surrey website offers a whole host of advice, tips and leftover recipes, developed by Surrey chef Carmela Tomkins.
Residents can also sign up to the e-newsletter, find out about roadshows coming to their local area, offer their own tips and recipes for others to share, make a pledge to reduce food waste and enter regular competitions with great prizes.
Why not visit Love Food Surrey today and find out how you can cut the cost of your shopping bill and help the environment too.
