Green garden waste

The most economical and environmentally sustainable method of dealing with green garden waste is composting it at home.

If this is not possible, you can either take it down to your local community recycling centre or have it picked up from your kerbside by your local council. See details of your local council's garden waste collection schemes below.

When putting your green waste out for composting:

  • Avoid leaving plastic bags, metal or plant accessories in with the garden waste to ensure the load is composted rather than sent to landfill
  • Do not include timber, stone, or extremely large branches which can damage the shredding machines used at the start of the composting process.
  • Do not include yew clippings in green waste skips. Yew is extremely poisonous and it is not recommended that you burn the clippings or bury them in your garden. You can, instead, contact Limehurst Ltd on 01243 555 110 who will take them to extract a particular chemical, which pharmaceutical companies use to develop medicines for cancer treatment.
