Surrey Design

'Surrey design: a strategic guide for quality built environments', published in 2002 by the Surrey Local Government Association, is a collaborative project between Surrey County Council, the eleven district and borough councils and other public and private sector stakeholders, intended to provide information that is frequently requested by professional planners and developers.

It is intended to promote the high quality design of new developments in Surrey:

  • Promoting good design through the development process.
  • Creating attractive and accessible places.
  • Ensuring that all development contributes to local distinctiveness and character.
  • Conserving energy and water, maintaining biodiversity, reducing waste and pollution, addressing climate change issues.
  • Encouraging vibrant and mixed communities where people feel safe.
  • Creating places for people that are safe and easy to move through and are accessible to all.
  • Making best use of available land.

You can download the whole publication below but as it is very large document we have also provided it broken down by chapter.

There is also a Technical appendix.
