Groups associations and courses for woodland owners
Confederation of Forest Industries (ConFor)
ConFor is the leading organisation for all those involved in woodlands whether for business or for pleasure. Today our woodlands are being managed for numerous purposes, from timber production to recreation and conservation. The individuals and businesses working in the growing sector reflect that diversity. ConFor is the only organisation that draws together all types of woodland owner, forestry businesses and individuals into one body.
Small Woods Association (SWA)
The
SWA aims to advance education in the conservation of small woodlands through an ambitious and exciting programme of events, publications and other activities.
Sussex and Surrey Coppice Group
The
Sussex and Surrey Coppice Group aims to promote the local coppice industry, its products and the regeneration of coppice woodland.
Surrey Tree Wardens
The
Tree Warden Scheme is a national initiative to enable people to play an active role in conserving and enhancing their local trees and woods. The scheme was founded by the Tree Council and is co-ordinated by the Council in partnership with The National Grid Company, which has a well-established policy of community involvement and environmental care.
Tree Wardens are volunteers, appointed by parish councils or other community organisations, who gather information about their local trees, get involved in local tree matters and encourage local practical projects to do with trees and woods.
Merrist Wood Campus at Guildford College
Merrist Wood Campus just outside Guildford offers several full and part time courses for those interested in woodlands.
Countryside Management Projects
Surrey's
countryside management projects run volunteer work programmes which often include some woodland training element. If you contact your nearest project, they will tell you when they are out doing woodland work or put you in contact with other volunteer groups near you undertaking woodland work.
