Surrey's rural development

Surrey's rural development is looked after by the Surrey Rural Partnership, Surrey County Council being one of the members of the partnership. The Partnership was established in 2007 to:
- provide a focal point and leadership for rural matters in Surrey
- champion the county's rural interests
- attract inward investment to rural Surrey
We have now produced a new Rural Strategy for Surrey from 2010 to 2015. This is a crucial tool to integrate rural initiatives in Surrey and to inform national and regional policy makers and funding agencies of our significant rural potential. It sets out the challenges and strategic objectives for the next five years, together with action plans that will help us to achieve these objectives.

Surrey Rural Conference held to launch the new strategy
The Surrey Rural Partnership held a launch of the new Rural Strategy 2010 to 2015 at Denbies Wine Estate Dorking on 12 May. The keynote speaker at the conference, Dr Stuart Burgess (the Government's Rural Advocate) reviewed rural issues in a national context and Dr Andrew Povey (Leader of Surrey County Council) considered what rural means to Surrey. The event provided an excellent opportunity for people who care about our countryside to meet together and was very well attended.
