Lower Mole Project - countryside and healthy walks

25 years of Countryside Management in Action

Guided Walks

Spring/Summer 2012

The Lower Mole Project organises a series of guided walks each year from April to September. The dates for 2012 will be published in March 2012 on our News and Events page. In the meantime several of our routes have leaflets for you to follow the trails yourself, please see below for information on these.

Lower Mole Walking Routes

The Lower Mole Project promotes five walking routes within its area. All of these routes have leaflets showing the route and most of them are waymarked as well. We have published the walk route as a pdf file below, please click on the wording in green below each walk to download this. Enjoy your walk!

Thames Down Link

A 15 mile linear route linking the Thames Path National Trail at Kingston with the North Downs Way National Trail at Westhumble. The route follows the green corridor, which joins the urban area of Kingston with the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The route links with public transport at several points, so you don't have to walk it all at once! The leaflet includes a description of the route to follow from north to south and a map, plus information about features along the route. This route is waymarked with a distinctive logo along its full length.

Sections of the route are suitable for pushchairs and for those of limited mobility, details are included in the leaflet. The Thames Down Link has received the London Walking Forum's Seal of Approval for the standard of its waymarking, leaflet and information panels.

Epsom and Ewell Health Walks

The Project supports Epsom and Ewell Health Walks, a programme of free walks in Epsom and Ewell open to everyone. The walks are easy going and most last about an hour. All the walks will be led by Walking For Health Initiative trained walk leaders.

An opportunity to improve your health and fitness, enjoy the countryside and meet new people. Walks will start slowly and gradually increase pace to a faster walk for about 30 minutes, followed by a gradual slow down. You will be able to tell that you are benefiting from this activity if you breathe a little faster, feel warmer and have a slightly faster heart beat.
  • Please wear comfortable shoes.
  • Wear several thin layers of clothing rather than one heavy layer.
  • Bring waterproof clothing if necessary.
  • Protect yourself from the sun with a hat and sunblock.
  • Take plenty of water with you.
  • Please keep dogs under close control.
  • Participants will be asked to fill in a brief health walk questionnaire at the start of their first walk.
