New services for young people in Surrey

Supporting young people

We have high ambitions for young people. In order to meet these ambitions, we are moving to an outcomes based commissioning approach, where the focus will be on the impact for young people rather than on the delivery of a particular service. Our strategy to meet these ambitions centre on:

  • More young people in employment, training and education
  • More young people diverted from crime and anti-social behaviour
  • More quality youth work delivered locally

The proposals for new services for young people

In December 2010, Cabinet approved Services for young people: fit for the future youth strategy to improve the economic wellbeing of Surrey young people. The measure of success is that every Surrey young person is participating in education, training and employment.

The following proposals have been devised to best place services for young people to meet those ambitions for young people:

  • Centre based youth work
  • Youth engagement
  • Outdoor learning
  • Learners with Learning difficulities and disabilities
  • Youth support service
  • Skills centres

More information about the proposed models can be found in the leaflet attached at the bottom of the page.

Skills and employability plan 2012-2016

We would like to know what young people, our partners and other professionals think about our proposals. Please visit the skills and employability webpage to read the plans and take part in the consultation, which lasts until 31 May 2012.
