Surrey Heritage brings together Surrey County Council’s expertise in preserving and celebrating the county’s past. The skilled staff based at Surrey History Centre in Woking preserve the written memory of our county, protect its archaeology, historic environment and artefacts and celebrate the diversity of history and experience that inspire people from Surrey and across the globe to investigate and share their rich cultural heritage.
This report highlights some of the work undertaken by the five teams that together make up Surrey Heritage in preserving the past, recording the county’s diverse cultures and drawing on those past and present riches to support stronger communities, engage with young people, enhance health and well-being and reach out to the wider world.
Surrey History Centre was recently awarded Four Star status, the highest achievable, in the national Self-Assessment Exercise undertaken by The National Archives. The excellent result was only achieved through the collaborative work undertaken by all of the teams at Surrey Heritage in partnership with a wide range of stakeholders and partners. This report admirably illustrates the work behind that coveted award.
