Waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE)

Any business involved in manufacturing, selling, distributing, recycling or treating electrical and electronic equipment should be aware that under the WEEE directive, which came fully into force in the UK on 1 July 2007, it is now illegal to dispose of waste electrical and electronic equipment to landfill.

There are certain requirements for WEEE relating to:

  • separate collection, disposal and recycling
  • standards for its treatment at authorised facilities
  • collection, recycling and recovery targets

For more detailed information on the WEEE regulation please refer to the Netregs website.

If you can, reuse or recycle electrical equipment yourself - see some tips on how to reduce reuse or recycle electrical goods.
