Surrey's superfast broadband project aims to stimulate economic growth to ensure Surrey's continued economic competitiveness. With a resident population of 1.1m, annual output of £26.5bn and approaching 600,000 jobs, Surrey's economy is sizeable. It generates more value than the economies of Birmingham (£20.1bn), Liverpool (£8.6bn) and Leeds (£17.8bn) and is the single largest net contributor to the Exchequer (some £6bn), second only to London.
Surrey Connects, Surrey's Local Enterprise Partnership, acknowledges the importance of superfast broadband in terms of Surrey’s economic competitiveness and in embracing the aim of providing access to superfast broadband to all businesses and residents in the county, aims to:

Businesses have said superfast broadband could improve they way they work through the ability to do things such as connect to remote offices and home workers, to allow staff to work on the move and utilise off site data storage.
