Deaf services

The Deaf Services Team offer information and advice; assessment of needs; equipment for the home to offer access to the door bell, smoke alarm, baby alarm and telephone; specialist social worker; support groups.

They work jointly with other services such as health, education and voluntary agencies.

Sign language interpreters and other aids are provided by Surrey Interpreting Service.

  • Equipment for the home to assist a deaf person with door bells, smoke alarms, baby alarms and telephones. Various equipment may be available free of charge to people who meet the eligibility criteria
  • Specialist social work
  • Support groups

Surrey Users Network

Deaf services also work with other agencies such as health, education and other voluntary organisations including the Surrey Users Network (SUN).

Surrey Interpreting Agency

The Surrey Interpreting Agency (SIA) is part of the Deaf Services Team and is generally for service providers to book a sign language interpreter. The SIA can also provide note takers, lip speakers, communication support workers and other facilities to aid communication for deaf people. The services provided are mainly booked by service providers for people who live and work in Surrey but can be requested by external companies, charities, schools and voluntary organisations both within and outside Surrey.
